The New Days of the Week

Level Four Lockdown: Day Thirty-Two
Curfew. 8 p.m.
Mood: Middling.Getting my amusement by watching the cat wiggle his bum.
Black and White Photo Challenge: Day Three

I'm in the last throws of a full moon funk, finding my moods are going all over the place and I'd much rather be sat in front of the television watching some BBC period drama with a pint of ice cream and a block of chocolate. Think of it as existential PMT. Like most things, it passes.

Lockdown isn't helping matters, but we hopefully only have another ten days of this, although word on the street says we could be in this for the month of September. I say hopefully because who knows what is going to happen in ten days time. I'm really not buying into the news at the moment - watching a lot of easy going happy telly in Netflix instead. Lots of Suits and Lucifer and Fleabag. Shows with happy endings - and Tom Ellis.

Anyway, such is the mood I'm in, I've decided to rename the days of the week, as they all run in together anyway and they have become interchangeable. So whereas at the moment it feels a bit like an eternal Monday, with a few elements of Wednesday afternoon thrown in, my new days of the week can come as they will. You might even have all of the days of the week in the one day.

So I think we need to rename the many days of the lockdown as follows:

Meh-Day

Meh-Day is the day where you really don't give a flying fuck about anything. You get up - meh. Eat ice cream for breakfast, meh. You don't shower, get out of your pyjamas or brush your hair. Everything is hard on Meh-Day. You don't make your bed on Meh-Day. You'll find the trackie dacks and t-shirt you've been wearing for the last three days and put them on about three p.m if you are lucky. You don't leave the front gate, let alone the front door. Everything tastes a bit like cardboard. Even Doritos, which have become a staple.

Basically, everything is Meh, and Meh is what it is meant to be.

Yeah-Day

Yeah-day doesn't come around very often, but when it does, it's semi-productive. Yeah-Day is the one day where you do get out of bed, go for your walk, get through some of your To-Do list, mop the floors, put away crap, sort out the shed. It can be brought on by the use of some amphetamine or other. It's good. You get shit done. It is however temporary. it takes a lot to build yourself up into a Yeah-Day.

Enjoy them when they occur. They're pretty infrequent.

Nah-Day

Nah-Day is one step above Meh-Day, just with more despondency and day-drinking. Nah-Day is where at least  you get up, go for a whizz, get a cup of tea, go back to bed and read a book. It's the day when everything is just too hard. Unlike Meh-Day, where you're half-functional, Nah-Day is a write off. It's a day for frozen pizza in bed, where you berate yourself for leaving chocolate stains and chip crumbs between the sheets. You don't answer the phone. You don't check your emails. You barely have the energy to change the channels and select something inane on Netflix. You start drinking at 10 am with breakfast beers and it goes on from there.

You're not allowed to have many Nah-Days.  If you do, seek help.

Wah-Day

Wah-Day is the day where you get to complain about anything and everything to everybody. You get on a roll. You're spoiling for a fight. Don't like the lockdown? Tell your 1000 friends in a passive-aggressive post on Facebook. Troll Daniel Andrews. Call Telstra and get into a verbal confrontation with the agent in Manila. Have a moan about the lockdown again. Whine about the curfew for another half an hour. Bitch to your friends that you haven't seen your family for weeks even though you don't like them. Get stroppy on social media complaining that Coles has run out of your favourite type of tissues. Get snarky with your barista for making you a bad coffee... and it goes on.

Nothing is good enough on Wah-Day, and you let everybody know about it. You may be quite content to suffer through Wah-Day, but your friends are not.

Pfft-Day

Pfft-Day is where you break your reading of the news and let yourself be taken down the rabbit holes of the tin-foil hat brigade.  You get to believe all sorts of crap. The anti-vaxxers, the sovereign citizens, the people who got a medical degree off of Facebook. I could add a whole heap of other groups here, but I won't, because I've already wiped my screen clean once today, I don't need to take any more spit-takes.

Pfft_Day is the day where you refuse to suffer any fools. A time to get irritated and angry.

Bah-Day

I quite like Bah-day - similar to Pfft-Day but you get to see through all the bullshit quickly and laugh at it. And there is a lot of it about. Most days will have an element of Bah-Day about it. And you can always get a laugh out of good satire. And if there is none of that to be found, you can always get a giggle out of these goats. (and sheep)

Fah-Day

Another day which seems to come regularly. Fah-Day is short for "What the Faaaarrk Now?-Day"

This day normally comes out when you're discussion:

  • American Politics
  • Richard Colbeck / Scott Morrison / Josh Frydenberg / David Littleproud / Dan Tehan and pretty much any other member of the cabinet.
  • Tony Abbott's new job as a trade emissary for the UK (they can have him)
  • Oh and of course whatever the Victorian Opposition is whining about.
  • Any new directives given by the DHHS.
  • And news of any anti-mask activity - which appears to have calmed down.
You'll have one of these days regularly, as things are so messed up at the moment.

Anyway, I'm having a gentle Meh-Day with a bit of Fah thrown in for good measure.

In these pandemic days, we gotta do what we can do to get through.
