Blog a Day June: Things We Don't Buy Any More

Here's a couple of things I don't buy any more, even if I need them now and then.

1. Stamps. Where the hell do you get stamps in a world where all of the world is going to email? The post office is miles away - well, it feels like it.

I've run out of stamps. Blah. I need to go to the post office, however as I also need a bag to send on my Mason's apron for upgrading (don't ask).

2. Full strength coke. Why would you drink something full of sugar when coke zero tastes just as good?

3.  CDs. Good for the car, not for anything else. Music goes on a MP3 player now, though I still burn the odd mixed CD for the car as the juice on my MP3 player runs out easily and the new iPhone won't play in my car - it only plays through the lightning charger jack.

4. Antiperspirant Deodorant. Don't get me wrong. I wear deodorant, just not the stuff with aluminium in it. I wear natural stuff that lets you sweat, but doesn't allow you to smell. I don't like the metallic taste you get in your mouth when you wear the aluminium stuff. Oh and the natural stuff doesn't stain your clothes.

5.  DVDs. Same reasons as CDs, though I do occasionally buy series I love from Britain that aren't available on Netflix.

6. Stockings. Gave up wearing them years ago. Happily wear opaque tights in winter, but the thought of stocking gives me the creeps.

7. Heels over three inches in height. I walk like a bad tranny in high heels. Medium block heels are the way to go.

8. Envelopes. A pack of 50 last me two years now - I remember buying them regularly ten years ago.

That's it for the moment. There are more, but I want to go to bed.

And there are more of these - just too tired to think about them.

Can't believe I've managed to get through this blogging every day lark.

Blog a Day June: Celebration

Tonight I'm having a minor celebration. Results were in today and I am now half way through my Masters in Writing.

The results were pretty good - a distinction. Nothing to sneeze at, but not the extra two marks that would make it a HD. I'm good with it. I know I mucked up a tute or two and my tutor is a stickler for what he wants. I think I'm more annoyed with the scant feedback received, which was identical to at least three other classmates, one with an HD, the others had identical marks to me. Annoying, but still, I'm doing very well and I'm now officially half way through my Masters in Writing.

So I'm celebrating tonight.

First of all, I've given myself the night off from study.

Next, on the back of last night's blog post, a very kind and generous friend offered me an open bottle of Jo Malone Red Roses perfume. It's too strong for her and it makes her sneeze. The offer was accepted with much gratitude and something lovely will come her way very soon. I picked up the perfume tonight when I got home. (Thanks again, oh scented benefactor - your bottle is in a good home)

So what does somebody celebrate half a Masters with?

Well, I after picking up the perfume I had to go down to the shops to get some milk and what did I find?

Bacon ice cream. Yep. Pancake flavored ice cream with maple syrup and candied bacon pieces.

Do you get much better than that? There is still 75% of the tub in the freezer. It's lovely, but really rich. Just a little of it is enough.

Oh and I did my ironing.

How much celebrating can a woman take!

Blog a Day June: Stella

Sometimes the best news comes your way so unexpectedly, you're left reeling, so happy that the event has happened.

I was online, looking for a bottle of perfume at a cheaper price than what's in the shops. Unfortunately I have expensive tastes when it comes to scent. Juliette's got a Gun's Lady Vengeance runs to around $200 a bottle.

I was hunting around, and there it was. My precious!

After a number of years, finally, unexpectedly, they're making my favourite perfume once again!

My current bottle, something by a company called Juliette has a Gun - Miss Charming, was the nearest to Stella that I could find. It's nice, but not Stella.

I've used Agent Provocateur for a while. Again, nice, but a bit stronger than Stella, a bit more tobacco-y. Very nice, but not Stella.

There's Jo Malone's Red Roses, which I love, but it's more a special occasion perfume. I was introduced to it by a colleague a number of years ago and I love it. It's bloody expensive, but lovely, hence the fact that it's a special occasion perfume.

I've got my summer perfume - Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea. Lovely and light and perfect for summer. It's nice and light and not overpowering. But it's not Stella

But none of them are Stella.

I remember when I asked a friend to bring me back some when he and his wife were coming through duty free. They weren't sure if they had the right one - then they smelled it and said "Yep, that smells like her." I found it really sweet that they knew what I smelled like. I can't smell the perfume on me.

The only other person to comment about my perfume is Barney. Maow Maow goes to give him a cuddle after sitting on me for a while. Blarney always comments that he finds it disconcerting that the cat smells of my perfume.

But I am happy. I can get my perfume again.

I was so happy, I called my mother about this joyous fact. See, I put Mum onto Stella years ago. She was as grumpy as I was when they discontinued it.

We bought up every bottle we  could find when we found out it was no longer being made.

Tonight, I go to bed a happy woman.

Small things, please small minds.

The Jackal Meme

Not overly enamored with Sunday Stealing's questions this week, but never to mind. I've had a
hour relax interstate and I'm feeling a hell of a lot better for the experience. There is very little a long hot bath and a sleep in can't fix.

1. Would you post a picture of you for us?

Err, no, I won't be doing that.

2. Would you date an 18-year-old at the age you are now?

Absolutely not. Other than I could easily be the mother of and 18-year-old, men are stupid enough in their forties. It's a special 18-year-old that would even take my interest, even if they are occasionally good to look at.

3. Do you prefer to work with women or men? Why?

I prefer to work with men or an equal mix of men and women. Working with all women, especially younger women, can get quiet bitchy at times (from experience) Working with men is far easier. You get to boss them around and they let you (for the most part, from experience) Working with men can provide a more relaxing environment.

4. Do you have any opposite sex friends?

Plenty of them. Love my men friends.

5. Can you commit to one person?

I've never done it in the past, never had a long term relationship, but I like to think that I could.

6. If you’re married or in a relationship have you ever been tempted to cheat?

See question above.

7. Do you think your life will change dramatically before 2018?

Unless I write the book that outsell's Harry Potter in that time, then probably not.

8. If the person you are interested in says they like someone else, what would try to sway them?

Oh for pity's sake, I got over this crap 30 years ago.

9. Are you good at hiding your feelings?

Not really, but I've had a lot of practice over the years.

10. When was the last time you cried?

Last week. It was the six month anniversary of my niece's death. That's a good reason to have a cry. Cried off and on all day.

11. Have you ever fell for someone you didn’t expect to?

See, another one of those questions that could really be left out. peurile crap that is.

12. What is something you have to do tomorrow?

Go to the gym. Go to work. Finish my tutorial paper. Load of washing. That will do.

13. Name something you dislike about the day you’re having.

The fact that I can't stay in this lovely hotel room for another day and have another evening of long baths, reading and doing sweet F.A.

14. Have you ever wanted more from one of your best friends of the opposite sex?

Can we have some grown up questions please?

15. Have you ever wanted someone you couldn’t have?

Seriously - I am not 15 any more. Of course I have, I'm an adult. You deal with it.

16. Who was the last person you talked to before you went to bed last night?

I was texting Blarney last night about popping in on the way home from the airport.

17. Do you have someone of the opposite sex you can tell everything to?

Yes. You don't need to know anything more than that.

18. When was the last time that you were jealous in a romance situation?

Oh for fuck's sake.... Seriously Sunday Stealing - you can do better than this.

19. If you had to delete one year of your life completely, which would it be?

1997. 1997 was rough. Other than my father died that year there were are number of very crappy things that happened. It wasn't good. I grew from the crappy stuff, but I wish that all of it wasn't dumped on me at once.

20. Did you have a good day yesterday? What did you do?

I did. I flew to Sydney, had lunch with a friend then went and relaxed in my well appointed hotel room after a dinner of Hungry Jacks (Burger King - guilty pleasure is the Whopper)

21. If a person you had wished you could have a relationship with for a long time and you suddenly found yourself together alone, what would you be doing right now?

Enough with the stupid relationship questions already.

22. Do you replay things that have happened in your head?

All the time. it's a bad habit of mine.

23. Don’t tell me lies, is the last person you texted attractive?

Yes. He is. I think he is anyway.

24. Is your life anything like it was two years ago? Is it a good or bad thing?

It's a hell of a lot busier and quite a bit more fulfilled. These are good things, though I wish I wasn't so busy sometimes.

Blog a Day June:Exhaustion

I'm finding that there is only one  fix for exhaustion.

That's do absolutely nothing.

So I'm holed up in a swanky hotel doing just that. Okay there's a bit of uni reading I need to do, but I've had a long bath, a gin and tonic, I've gone out and had a burger for dinner (Hungry Jacks, when only the best will do) and I'm ready to have a good lie in tomorrow morning.

And hopefully I wont be falling asleep by midday tomorrow.

At least being away from home I'm not tempted to do anything more than watch telly and read a book.

And at least next week things calm down a lot and the biggest thing that needs doing is the ironing and seeing Dave the Trainer (Cleo is away for a few weeks).

It's good.

I'm going back to my king sized bed with the 1000 thread count sheets now.

Blog a Day June: Things about today

Things you need to know about today.

1. Britain voted to leave the European Union (The Brexit). The result of which is it appears the sky is falling. David Cameron has resigned as British Prime Minister - which may not be a bad thing. Yes, the move towards nationalism is freakishly scary. Yes, the markets have taken a tumble. This should be temporary if other big events like this are anything to go by.

The thing to remember is that the sun will rise tomorrow and the world will go on. Part of me is laughing about the fact that sometime down the line the Brits will have to join the "other nationalities' queue at major European airports - but as an Australian passport holder I'm used to this. I sort of laugh at the thought of the queues getting longer.

The voice of the disenfranchised is rising. Pity it's so nationalistic.

2. I voted today. Got that out of the way as I am "travelling" next Saturday. I was even sort of pleasant to the guy handing out Liberal propaganda - and didn't say something along the lines of "You've got more chance of getting a wank off the Pope than having me vote for your mob". As always, I voted under the line. I also took a black pen in which to vote. I always vote in pen - never trust the bastards.

Glad that is over.

3. Went and saw Double Indemnity at the MTC tonight. On the good side, the set and costumes were good. Underlit and drab, but good.

Okay, I was really underwhelmed and would have happily walked out at interval. The accents were annoying. The reviewer at the Fairfax pretty much says it all. Just read this and I agree with all he says - including the fact that the girl who played the secretary was the best thing about the whole thing. Not a complete dud, just not a favourite, unfortunately.

4.  I'm a perfume junkie. Luckily kept my purse in my handbag. Juliette's got a Gun's Lady Vengeance seems to be my next fragrance pick. Just wish it wasn't so expensive.

5.  Though it's been a hugely busy week, and it's been fun, gee I'm glad it's over.

Looking forward to getting into the gym on numerous occasions next week, once I'm back from my travels.

Blog a Day June: To Do List

It's a quick list blog today. Easier than trying to find a pen something decent. I'm too tired for that. It's hell week.

So, things I have to get done tonight:

  • Pack for the weekend (half done)
  • Get the council minutes done for the lodge (next week job)
  • Do a load of washing (done)
  • Get out the second duvet as it is freezing and it's double duvet time (done)
  • Get my coffee ready for the morning (done)
  • Work out what I'm wearing tomorrow (done)
  • Cut my toenails
  • Maybe do some ironing
  • Tidy up a bit - haven't been home all week - must be done.

This would all be easier if I didn't turn on the new season of Orange is the New Black on to avoid the football.

Oh, I've just checked the scores.  Jay is a one eyed North Melbourne supporter. I'm a Crows Supporter. We beat them by 33 points. I'm not allowed to talk about the footy for the next few days.

Something better will come tomorrow.
