Miffy goes Agile

It's about time I put the cork board to good use.

I've made myself a Kanban board.

It's a project management tool. What you do is you write down the things you want to get done each day on a sticky note - or in my case, a sheet of Miffy paper (courtesy of HEMA in Paris).

There are three columns.

TO DO                UNDERWAY                DONE

Once you start something, you move the sticky note to Underway. When the task is complate, you move it to Done.

When you're on a project it's a great way to see where things are at. There are virtual Kanban boards that can be run on JIRA (an Atlassian tool - I love it - many don't).

At the end of the day, the aim is to get as much of your To-Do list in the Done pile.

You can have daily categories, or special tasks. As I'm just starting out on my between-jobs status, I'm looking at what I want to get done daily. At least at the end of the day I can see what I got done.

My Kanban Board @ 6.00 p.m.

So far, I've got six daily activities:
  • Job Hunt
  • Exercise
  • Write
  • Clean and Tidy
  • Read 50 Pages
  • Social (Basically get out of the house and talk to somebody who isn't the cat)
There is also my Ted Lasso "Believe" sticky note, a flyer for the Pop-Up Globe and an old exhibition of Mapplethorpe and Kusama exhibitions and lots of pins.

It's a good reminder that I am achieving something over the day.

Good for the mental health - even if it is a technique borrowed from the corporate world. I think the Miffy post-it notes make it all the more palatable.
