Blog-a-Day May - Day 18: The Random 20

Another Sunday and another lazy meme. Easy to do, little to think about. As I don't have a flat to clean, I've been round to see Blarney and Maow Maow and been to an anti-government rally. So here we go - get ready for the week ahead with  few questions. They're pretty easy questions - great for Sunday night's reflection. Thanks once again to Sunday Stealing for the questions.

1. Last time you had butterflies in your stomach?

Last Wednesday when I went to see the podiatrist. I don't like it when I don't know what people are going to do with my body, especially my feet. It was all okay once it was all over.

2. What was your last alcoholic beverage?

I had a glass of wine or two with my parents a few weeks ago when they were over in the Yarra Valley. As I've had the flu, drinking alcohol has not been on the cards for the last two weeks.

3. Who can you trust?

I trust my close friends - Blarney, Gloria, Jay. There are levels of trusts - I only give out what I want - let people know what they nee to know. I've had trust issues for years though I am learning with time.

4. Where was your first kiss with your current significant other?

As I don't have a significant other, I haven't had that. It's been years since I've had anything more than a peck on the cheek from a nice man. We live in hope.

5. Favorite Band?

I don't have a favourite band at the moment - but I do have what's playing in the car. At the moment, that's Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Dire Straits and Alt-J. A bit eclectic really. This could be completely different in a month time.

6. What is something you've learned about yourself recently?

I am a lot more resilient than I give myself credit for. I've also just found out that my self-esteem is a lot better than it used to be. Both are good things.

7. Do you like anyone?

I like lots of people. I think this is asking, do I fancy anybody. Does Craig McLachlan as Dr Blake count?

8. Do you know anyone who is engaged?

The only person who I knew was engaged got married yesterday, so the answer to that is now no. If you're reading this, congratulations Malissa.

9. What's your favorite number?

64. Why, because of the Beatles. Have loved this song since I was a child.

10. Who was the last person to make you cry?

My naturopath last Friday. I visited to collect some herbs. I was in the middle of a bout of the flu feeling dreadfully sorry for myself. He said he'd give me a hug but I was too toxic to go near. In my defence, I felt like I'd been hit my a truck. I don't cry that often any more

11. Did you ever go to camp as a kid?

Being Australian, we don't do the camp think that they do in the US. However, in primary school, they sent us out bush for a few days once a year and in grade seven, we went to Aquatics Camp, where we stayed in at tent at a caravan park and they tried to teach us to surf. I am not a camper. I don't get camping. It's a bit like voting Liberal or eating lasagne - I don't get it and have no desire to find out about it either.

12. When was the last time you cried?

See question 10.

13. What is one thing you miss about your past?

After nearly 15 years, I still miss England. I miss London. I miss the crack. I miss some of my friends. I miss the old things, the history and the people. And the closeness to Europe.

14. What is one thing you've learned about life?

It is your responsibility to make yourself happy and do your very best. If you can get your head around this and do and be your best, life can be good. All you can do is try. It is your life to make the most of. Make the most of every minute.

15. Are you jealous of anyone?

Jealousy is a waste of energy. I am a bit in awe of Hannah Kent, a fellow Adelaide girl who wrote "Burial Rites". I'm also in awe of my friend Desi who completed the Great Ocean Road Marathon today. Just jealous, no.

16. Is anyone jealous of you?

I can't think about anything in my life that people would be jealous of - so no. I can see that one or two people might be a little taken with some of the freedoms I have in my life, but I can't see why people would be jealous of me.

17. Has a friend ever used you?

Yes, but it's not something I want to talk about here. Needless to say, they're no longer a friend.

18. Has anyone recently told you that they like you more than as a friend?

No, I just have friends. No idea what it's like to have "more than a friend".

19. Who was the last person you drove with?

It was only a short drive, but I dropped our Grand Poobah at the lodge after she popped in to pick up some paperwork from me. Overdue for a road trip.

20. What are you looking forward to?

Lots of things. The future. A holiday. Seeing my friend Geetangeli in a few weeks. Getting running again. Maybe starting my Masters. Seeing Rocky Horror in a few weeks time. Seeing some friends who will be over in July from the Netherlands... there are always good things to come.

Ah....the old Beatles number! Play it often on my guitar and always will do even when I'm past 64!
